Jeremiah 29:11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. (NRSV)

Okay, so what are you looking forward to next year? Anything? Or in your heart, in your mind, is it a case of there’s nothing good to look forward to? Whichever it is for you, I have some great news for you today.

I know what it is to stand on the threshold of a new year and be completely without hope. It happened almost a quarter of a century ago now. And when all your hopes and dreams lie shattered at your feet, it’s hard to imagine a tomorrow, let alone the rest of next year.

Some people are heading into the new year in that dark place. For others it’s perhaps not quite that bad, but the year ahead nevertheless looks just a tad drab and uninteresting.

Another year of doing the same thing all over again? Really? Is this all there is?

We’ve all been there, right? Well today, I want to hit you between the eyes with some good news … some great news … some utterly, outrageously sensational news.

Jeremiah 29:11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. (NRSV)

God knows what this next year holds. And He has a plan for you – a good plan for you, not a bad one. That doesn’t mean that everything is necessarily going to go swimmingly well. Bad things do happen to good people. People get sick, and eventually we all leave this body, this earth behind.

But whatever ups and downs lie ahead, God’s plan is to give you a future full of hope. His plan is to keep an eye on your welfare.

That’s His promise to you today. It’s a promise that you can depend on, no matter what this world throws at you.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
