John 14:27 I leave you peace. It is my own peace I give you. I give you peace in a different way than the world does. So don’t be troubled. Don’t be afraid.

So, when was the last time your anger got the better of you? How did it turn out? And how would you perhaps do things differently in that very same situation, if you were given the opportunity?

It’s easy when the pressure’s on to have an angry outburst. We’ve all done it, and I suspect we’ve all regretted it. The truth is that those angry outbursts have a way of robbing you of peace … and not just you, but everyone else around you.

Anger and peace don’t go together. It’s one or the other

You know, just before they hammered Him to a cross, Jesus said this to His disciples,

John 14:27 I leave you peace. It is my own peace I give you. I give you peace in a different way than the world does. So don’t be troubled. Don’t be afraid.

The more you think about that, the more you come to realise that even though Jesus wants to give us His peace, how we react to situations and to people who don’t fit in with our plans, our needs, our wants, can either cause us to live in His peace or can rob us of that peace.

Now, take that thought just one step further, and you come to the profound realisation that right in the middle of a situation that has the potential to make you burst out in anger, you have the opportunity instead to lay hold of the peace that only Jesus can bring.

It’s easy to justify our anger, but it’ll rob us of the peace that Jesus died and rose again to give us each and every time.

My peace I give to you, my peace I leave with you.

Anger or peace? You can’t have them both at the same time.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
