Proverbs 29:1 Some people refuse to bend when someone corrects them. Eventually they will break, and there will be no one to repair the damage.

Okay, so when was the last time someone criticised you. It hurts, doesn’t it? Even when they have the best of intentions. And yet criticism, if we channel it in the right direction, can be such a powerful force for good in our lives.

Pride is one of the most destructive forces in our lives because it causes us and others so much pain. Many a person lives their life by the maxim – it’s my way or the highway. You’ve heard that, right? Sure, some people are more prone to it than others – leaders, achievers, those go–getters in particular. But if we’re going to be honest with ourselves, there’s a bit of it in all of us.

I want to do things my way. I know what’s right, I know how to get us there so we’re going to do it my way and if you don’t like it, get lost!

Now this whole stubbornness thing promises so much. It promises that by getting my way, I’ll win and therefore my life will be good. It’s all about winning.

But relationships aren’t about winning. Friendship isn’t about winning. Teamwork isn’t about winning. Love … isn’t about winning. People filled with pride win hollow victories because they end up being the loneliest people on earth.

Proverbs 29:1 Some people refuse to bend when someone corrects them. Eventually they will break, and there will be no one to repair the damage.

I love that concept of bending, of allowing ourselves to be shaped and moulded through correction. Look, no one likes to be criticised. But when we subject ourselves to correction, we don’t just get a better result – we end up a better person.

And look at the alternative for those who refuse:

Eventually they will break, and there will be no one to repair the damage.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
