Have you ever wanted to wind the clock back to the good old days? Things seemed so much simpler then. And life … life somehow seemed better too. What’s going on? Why do I feel this way?

Have you ever gone house hunting? You flip through the real estate pages in the newspaper looking for the ideal home.

Oh, here’s one. Three-bedroom cottage, close to railway station and it says that it’s a renovator’s delight. That looks interesting.

Renovations are all the rage. In fact, around the world people spend billions on them each year. But each old house that today is desperately in need of a makeover began its life brand spanking new one all those years ago, deteriorating as the years slipped by so that today, as the real estate agents put it, it’s become a renovator’s delight.

Life can be a bit like that too. We look back at our former glory days and weigh them against today’s challenges and we wonder, “How did I ever get to this point?”

But Jesus, this carpenter from Nazareth, is a Master Renovator.

Haggai 2:9 The latter splendour of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts; and in this place I will give prosperity, says the Lord of hosts. (NRSV)

When He looks at us, He says to Himself, “If only this one would reach out to Me. This life could end up so much better than anything that’s gone before – a great beginning, but a glorious finish.”

What if the insurmountable problems in your life today are in fact the Master Renovator’s dream? What if you are His delight? What if He looks at you and sees the potential that any renovator sees in a rundown, old house. What if?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
