John 5:24 I assure you, anyone who hears what I say and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life. They will not be judged guilty. They have already left death and have entered into life.

There was a time in my life when the idea of believing in Jesus was about as likely as me flapping my arms and flying to the moon. But times change. How about you? Is now the time to take that step and believe with your very life in this Jesus who claims to be the Son of God? Is today that day?

It’s fascinating to see how popular opinion changes over time. A few centuries ago, slavery was just an accepted fact of life. People really couldn’t imagine how an economy could get by without slave labour. Of course, today we absolutely abhor the idea. But back in the late 1700’s when British politician and philanthropist William Wilberforce stood up against slavery, they ridiculed him.

Just a few decades ago smoking was socially acceptable, despite the mounting evidence of its dangers. Today, increasingly it’s being banned in public places, even though just ten years ago those who advocated such a radical change were ridiculed.

Group think is a powerful thing. We don’t like those “voices in the wilderness” that tell us we’re headed in the wrong direction, especially when they’re right.

And so when Jesus comes along and talks about right and wrong, heaven and hell, consequences – even though He offers Himself up to us as the answer – it’s so easy to just push Him aside; to ridicule Him.

But no matter how much we want to ignore Him, He is the Son of God. And the offer of eternal life is there for each one of us.

John 5:24
I assure you, anyone who hears what I say and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life. They will not be judged guilty. They have already left death and have entered into life.

So the question for each of us to answer is this: will we take Him up on His offer, or will we just ridicule Him?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
