Who is Christianityworks?

In a Nutshell

Christianityworks is a non-denominational media ministry. Our sole purpose is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ through the media around the globe, to help people enter into a rich, dynamic relationship with Jesus.

We do that by producing Christian television and radio programs that we provide free of charge to over 1,350 Christian, community, commercial and government-owned stations throughout the world.

Each week, literally millions of people hear about Jesus through our Bible teaching programs – Bible teaching that is passionately faithful to the Scriptures and equally relevant the issues that people are dealing with in 21st Century life.

A Short History

Christianityworks was “planted” in Australia way back in 1957 by the American ministry Back to the Bible. We’ve had a few name changes along the way … from Back to the Bible … to Good News Broadcasting … and in around 2001 to Christianityworks.

In 2007, Christianityworks – like many of the other international ministries of Back to the Bible – became an independent organisation, governed by a Board of godly leaders.

But we remain thankful for Back to the Bible’s vision, support and encouragement over half a century! The living legacy of Back to the Bible through Christianityworks today and, God willing, well into the future, is the many lives that are being changed for the glory of God.

Christianityworks has grown strongly in recent years, from broadcasting its Bible teaching programs only within Australia, to reaching across much of the world – now with offices in the United Kingdom, Ghana and India, as well as Australia.

The Mission

The world has changed dramatically since 1957 – technology, social values, globalisation – and whilst we have constantly innovated to remain at the forefront of relevance, our mission hasn’t changed at all. Not one, little bit.

It is, quite simply, this:

To lead millions of people, one by one, into a dynamic relationship with Jesus by teaching the Bible in the media.

That means both:

  • leading believers into spiritual maturity and active service for Christ in the local church and the world, and
  • reaching unbelievers with the Gospel of Christ by teaching the Bible through media.

Our Passion

Passion is what makes this ministry tick.

Passion for Jesus. Passion for people to know Him for themselves. And a passion for excellence and innovation.

The testimonies that we receive every week from people whose lives have been touched and transformed, move us to the core.

To hear of a marriage that has been healed, to read the email from the woman who was literally pulled back from the brink of suicide as she heard one of our radio messages, to read the note penned to us by the Vice President of Liberia about the impact that Christianityworks is having in the healing and reconciliation of his nation, to read the daily stories of transformation and salvation that we receive each week …

… those human stories of real people’s lives being radically turned upside down by Jesus, are what keep us doing what we do.

It’s a passion, actually, that comes from the Jesus Himself as He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night He was betrayed. A prayer that He prayed for each one of us:

I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them. (John 17:20-26)

That’s why Jesus went to the Cross: to purchase that eternal intimacy with God for each one of us. As you read His prayer, did you hear the deep passion in His voice for this lost and hurting world?

It’s that passion – Jesus’ passion – that keeps us doing what we do.

Looking Ahead

We know that Christianity actually works. We know that as people receive the Word of Christ into their hearts, Jesus sets them free and brings love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control into their lives.

When we share the truth, the powerful Word of God right into the nitty-gritty issues of life, the Holy Spirit takes that and transforms people’s lives.

And by the way, that’s not something we have to stop and think about too much. By God’s grace, we see it happening every day!

Our vision is to take the Gospel of Christ farther, wider and deeper than ever before. And so we will in time, find gifted and anointed Bible teachers in different countries, to share that same Gospel into the lives of their countrymen and women, in their language, in their culture, for God’s glory.

And that … that is why we so value the prayer and support of friends like you. Because we simply cannot do it without you.
