Have you ever felt a disconnect between what you truly long for, how you’d like to be living your life and the way you’re actually living your life day by day, and where it’s headed, and where it’s likely to end up? You wouldn’t be alone.

It typically begins as a mild feeling of discomfort, but as time goes by it morphs into sort of a dull ache that that you just can’t seem to shake. And for some, as it did for me a good many years ago, it turns into such a piercing pain that you really have to do something about it.

The problem is you’re on this treadmill, driven by the idea that the world’s dropped on your head that you have to succeed at whatever you’ve set our mind to, whatever you’ve turned your hand to. And the way we measure success is by what other people think and say; whether they admire us or admonish us.

And that’s the slippery slope to becoming a glory seeker; like a junkie always craving the next fix, the next pat on the back, the next “You’re fantastic. You’re a winner.” But it never quite satisfies. It never fills you with what you’ve been yearning for. So you end up leading a hollow existence. Does that sound even vaguely familiar? Jesus once said this:

John 5:44 How can you believe when you accept glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the one who alone is God? (NRSV)

Friend, Jesus came to set you free from all that; to heal this world-induced glory addiction; to fill you with all that you’ve ever longed for by pouring His glory, God’s glory, into your heart.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
